7 Win National Ranch and Stock Horse Alliance All-Around Championships

Riders from the Lone Star State made a strong showing – winning four of the seven all-around titles — at the inaugural National Ranch and Stock Horse Alliance (NRSHA) National Championship Show at the Lazy E in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

The first-ever competition was held in conjunction with the Zoetis AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championship Show, June 13-17, at the Lazy E in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

More than $62,000 in cash and prizes was awarded at the event. NRSHA classes were held concurrently with the Zoetis AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championship Show.

Justin Lawrence of Alzada, Montana, won the Open division riding Mia Lil Pink, a bay mare by Shining Lil Nic out of Lean With Mia (by Lean With Me). Mia Lil Pink was bred by JanieJill Tointon.

In the Amateur competition, Sidney Dunkel of Archer City, Texas, rode her gelding, Bobbie Can Do, to the winner’s circle. The gelding (Cat Man Do x Bo Bobbie Sox x Mr Sorrel Bo) and was bred by the W.T. Waggoner Estate, a Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder. Bobbie Can Do also was the overall highest placing Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Bred Horse. Sidney receives $250 plus a trophy and breeder W.T. Waggoner also receives $250.

Jessica Rumbaugh of El Campo, Texas, and Boonfull Of Caesar, a gelding by Royal Caesar Boon out of MH Whata Investment (by Bodee Boonsmal) reined in the Limited Amateur title, while the Novice Amateur All Around title went to Christy Achterhof of Newcastle, Wyoming and Kings Silk (BA King x Silks Amazing Grace x Silk Fols).

Youth riders made their presence known in three divisions.

  • Gracelyn Jacobs, of Montgomery, Texas, topped the Youth division and Wild Card Jackson (Wild Card Dunit x Cols Lil Amy x Cols Little Pepper). The 2006 gelding was bred by L.A. Waters Quarter Horses, a Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder.
  • Madison Miller, of Bryan, Texas, won the Limited Youth with Cee Hickory Doc (Doc’s Hickory x Cee Miss Nite x Peponita).
  • Catelyn Walker of Prairie Grove, Arkanas, earned the Novice Youth All Around title on Do It Classy, a W.T. Waggoner Estate-bred mare by Cat Man Do out of High Class Senorita (by Mr Solano Smoke).

In addition to All-Around champions, 35 national class champions were crowned from approximately 725 entries in ranch trail, ranch reining, ranch riding, ranch cutting, ranch boxing and ranch cow work in open, amateur, novice amateur, limited amateur, youth, novice youth and limited youth classes.

The newly formed National Ranch and Stock Horse Alliance is comprised of six ranch/stock horse associations – East Coast Stock Horse Association, National Versatility Ranch Horse Association, Oklahoma Stock Horse Association, Stock Horse of Texas, Western States Versatility Ranch Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.

To qualify for the 2019 NRSHA National Championship Show, a rider must show in at least three shows hosted by an alliance member association between March 1, 2018 and February 28, 2019.
