Sparky Jac Dun It Brings Top Dollar in OKC

This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Futurity Prospect Sale during the NRHA/Markel Futurity Sales in Oklahoma City. Sparky Jac Dun It celebrated the milestone as the session’s highest seller.

Passing through the sale ring as Hip No. 2017, Sparky Jac Dun It garnered an $81,000 bid for consignor Muehlstaetter Performance Horses. The 2-year-old sorrel colt was purchased by Dean Spence, whose first-ever futurity horse – Smart Voodoo Doctor – competes in Saturday’s Futurity Level 4 Open finals with Jared Leclair.

“When he was out in the arena [in the preview], he stood out,” said Spence, of Gainesville, Texas, who has never bought a horse out of the Futurity Sales before.

“It’s been interesting and rewarding,” he added about being at the Futurity as an owner for the first time. “Working with Jared, it’s like a partnership. I don’t feel like an owner. I feel like I’m just part of this. It’s just a team environment.”

Sparky Jac Dun It is by Electric Code, who was shown through most of his career by co-owner Leclair, and out of Memories In Progress (by Hollywood Dun It). Though she only won $500 in the arena, Memories In Progress has produced five reining performers with total offspring earnings of more than $35,000.
