Jameson Grimes & Cyndi Cat Land $2,000 Limit Rider Titles

After growing up on a horseless farm in Oregon, Jameson Grimes is making up for lost time at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) World Finals in Fort Worth.

Grimes, who entered the show with the lead in the $2,000 Limit Rider World standings, finished second in Thursday’s go-round with Cyndi Cat to unofficially clinch both the World Finals Show and World championships.

The 436 composite score he accumulated during the show were good for $2,632, pushing his season total to $14,626. Although he rode a mare named Bless Chu Mate (Smart Mate x HB Dear Chula x Chula Dual) during the majority of the season, he piloted Cyndy Cat (WR This Cats Smart x Dox Little Cindy x Peppy San Badger) in the Finals.

Both mares are owned by Dr. Gerald Dorros, of Wilson Wyoming.

Grimes hauled for the World title at the urging of his boss, trainer Mike Wood, and Roper Curtiss. Although he’d worked a lot of horses since taking up riding nine years ago, Grimes said he didn’t have a ton of experience in the show pen.

“They said, ‘You’ll have a chance to do it [and] you’ll have a good horse to do it, but you’re going to have to show well,” Grimes recalled. “With both of their help – both Mike and Roper’s help – I started to figure out how to show a little bit.”

The World Finals winnings pushed Grimes near $20,000 in NCHA earnings. Cyndi Cat, who was bred by Jerry and Melinda Black, of Loveland, Colorado, has more than $171,000 in earnings, according to the NCHA.
