When BFR Igniting Sparks came out of the 2017 Lucas Oil American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Championship Show, he had earned a World Championship in Senior Working Cow Horse, a Reserve World Championship in Senior Heading, a fourth in Senior Tie-Down Roping, a ninth in Senior Ranch Riding and a ninth in Aged Performance Halter Stallions. Those achievements earned him the title of AQHA Superhorse.

BFR Igniting Sparks, a 2009 palomino stallion, is no stranger to the arena. He had already won a World championship in 2016 in the Senior Heeling. He was also the 2016 AQHA High-Point All-Around Senior Performance Horse.

His record shows he has earned 582.5 AQHA points in nine events, including performance halter. That also includes Superiors in Tie-Down Roping, Heading and Heeling, making him an AQHA Performance Champion. He has an Equi-Stat record of $65,913, including $49,261 in the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA), where he was the winner of the Open Hackamore at the 2014 Stallion Stakes.

The pedigree of BRF Igniting Sparks (Shining Spark x Sliden Wright By x Smart Little Lena) is built on versatility through both his sire and dam. He was bred by Scott Gaddy, of Clements, California, and when we look at his pedigree, we see how this versatility came together, including some Superhorse history through his sire.

Shining Spark (Genuine Doc x Diamonds Sparkle x Mr Diamond Dude) was the 1993 AQHA Junior Reining World Champion and the 1994 NRHA Derby Open Champion. He earned $62,674.

This great stallion has gone on to be a versatile sire with earnings of more than $9 million in reining and reined cow horse. He is the all-time leading sire of reined cow horse money-earners, according to Equi-Stat.

His leading money-winners include Shining N Sassy ($260,164) in reining and Smart Shinetta ($130,977) in reined cow horse. He has 566 AQHA-registered performers that have earned 36,575 points and 36 AQHA World championships. His Quarter Horse foals have earnings of more than $1.5 million from the AQHA World Show and the AQHA Incentive Fund. His leading money-earner with AQHA is Shine By The Bay ($178,699), with 517 AQHA points. Shine By The Bay was an AQHA World Show Reserve Superhorse.

Genuine Doc (Doc Bar x Gay Bar’s Gen x Gay Bar King) was the 1981 Augusta Futurity Non-Pro Champion and the 1985 AQHA Senior Cutting Reserve World Champion. He earned $31,350 in cutting. His sire record shows that his foals have earnings of greater than $1.5 million in cutting, reining and reined cow horse. He is the sire of horses that have won 10 AQHA World championships. His foals have AQHA World Show and Incentive Fund earnings of more than $450,000. A leading point-earner is Genuine Redbud (out of Seven S Margarita x Son O Leo), who earned 1,344.5 AQHA points and was an AQHA Superhorse in her own right.

Diamonds Sparkle was the 1979 AQHA World Superhorse – the second horse to earn the title. She was the AQHA Senior Heading World Champion, and she was fourth in Senior Reining and ninth in Senior Heeling. She earned 143 AQHA points in heading, heeling, reining and Western pleasure.

Sliden Wright By (Smart Little Lena x Slide Me Again x Isle Breeze) is an unshown mare and the dam of horses that have earned $179,997 in the arena. The AQHA shows she has four point-earners with 664.5 earned. Her second-leading money-winner and point-earner is Spark Me Again ($49,671), a full brother to BFR Igniting Sparks. Some of his leading money-winners include Red White And Boon ($922,063) in cutting, Lenas Wright On in reining and Brother White ($122,240) in reined cow horse.

Smart Little Lena has a very prominent maternal grandsire record. He has sired daughters that have had foals with earnings of more than $67 million in cutting, reining and reined cow horse. When we look at the produce record of Slide Me Again, we see her son Lenas Wright On is a leading money-earner in reining for Smart Little Lena. This makes him a full brother to Sliden Wright By. Lenas Wright On was the 1994 NRHA Futurity Open Champion and the 1996 AQHA Junior Working Cow Horse World Champion. He was the 1995 AQHA Reserve World Champion in Junior Reining and the 1995 AQHA High-Point Junior Reining Horse. He earned 61 AQHA performance points, and he has an Equi-Stat record of $109,994.

They produced eight performers, including: Lenas Wright On; Love Em N Lena ($114,191), the 2004 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Reserve Champion; Smart Sliden Lena ($15,168), the 2001 NRHA Derby Limited Non-Pro Reserve Champion with 101 AQHA performance points and a Superior in reining; and Smart N Wright, with 92 AQHA points in working cow horse, heading and heeling.

In turn, Shining Spark and Smart Little Lena mares have put together their own magic cross. Some performers that represent that cross include: Shine Smartly ($128,850); Lil Miss Shiney Chex ($108,756), with 62 AQHA points; Shiney Lil Miss ($89,000); Lil Shiny Long Legs ($67,383); and Shiners Smart Chex ($19,468), with 52 AQHA points.
