Lyle Lovett Wins NRHA Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement Award

By himself and in partnerships, Lovett bred earners of $367,812 in reining, reined cow horse and barrel racing. The bulk of that – $223,764 – was on his own. However, $134,216 of that total was from reined cow horse and reining earners bred in a partnership between him and Carol Rose, including National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Reserve Champion Shiners Nickle (by Smart Shiner).

The NRHA Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honor of Dale Wilkinson, a multiple NRHA Futurity champion remembered as the “father of reining.” One of the NRHA’s founding members, Wilkinson was an educator, promoter of the sport and mentor to reiners – professional and non-pro – on how competitors should conduct themselves, and train and exhibit a horse.

Lovett will be honored during the 2018 NRHA Convention, formerly known as the NRHA Winter Meeting.
