When Andrea Fappani entered the Great Southwest Equestrian Center on April 24 for the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) Level 4 Open finals, he was loaded with horsepower thanks to his three finalists. When the reining dust settled, his 229-point ride on Chic Dreamin gave him his fourth NRBC Level 4 Open Championship, which was worth $75,000.

Chic Dreamin is a 5-year-old stallion owned by Silver Spurs Equine, and bred by Kathy and Casey Hinton. His lifetime earnings now stand at $133,376. Chic Dreamin is sired by Magnum Chic Dream and out of Skeets Red Dunit, a daughter of Skeets Peppy.

Sire Line

Magnum Chic Dream ($44,553) was the 2004 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Senior Reining World Champion and earned an AQHA Superior in Reining after amassing 100 points in both the Open and Amateur divisions. The National Reining Horse Association’s (NRHA) record shows Magnum Chic Dream was a multiple aged-event finalist, including a Limited Open Reserve Championship at the 1999 NRHA Futurity, where he was also a finalist in the Open and Intermediate Open.

The dam of Smart Chic Olena is Gay Sugar Chic, who is by the important sire Gay Bar King. Gay Sugar Chic’s foals have banked more than $400,000 and include Miss Elan ($100,814), Chiclynx ($48,921) and ARC Matt Olena ($32,955).

Daughters of Gay Sugar Chic have reinforced the success of this mare’s line. Her daughter Summer Lynx is the dam of Cats Summertime ($357,937). Her daughter Pretty Lean Chick is the dam of Cat T Masterson ($200,187). Her daughter Chiclynx is the dam of Catty Hawk ($240,282).

Gay Sugar Chic is out of Chicy Little by Frisco. The dam of Chicy Little is Bay Sugar Chic, a daughter of Frisco. This makes Chicy Little inbred with a breeding pattern of 1 X 2 to Frisco. Skeets Red Dunit is by Skeets Peppy ($85,306), an NRHA Futurity Open finalist and NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity finalist. He is an Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Sire whose offspring include 2016 NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman winner Skeets Oak Peppy.
