The well-traveled stallion showed at the Arizona Sun Circuit Cutting just three days before walking into the herd in Augusta, Georgia. Four days later, he competed in Las Vegas at the Tropicana Cutting Spectacular.

High Brow Hickory’s busy month followed a lucrative fall season. In September 1987, Tolbert rode him to win the 1987 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Breeders Cutting Open Championship and a $28,427 paycheck. The following month, the pair won the Reno Maturity Open, which added $13,998 to their Equi-Stat records.

The late Bill Freeman rode High Brow Hickory in his debut at the 1986 NCHA Futurity, where they tied for the Open Reserve Championship, worth $85,446. Other riders who showed the horse to the pay window were Bill Riddle, Bill Glass, Teddy Johnson and Lonny Morris. High Brow Hickory has an Equi-Stat record totaling $222,959.

In the breeding shed, High Brow Hickory sired earners of more than $5 million, with Smart Lookin Hi Brow topping that list at $221,928. Though not the richest as far as performance earnings, High Brow Hickory’s most famous offspring is High Brow Cat, the all-time leading sire of cutting money-earners.
