Cattys Hope and Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Rider Michael Cooper got the 2017 show season off to a good start with a win in the Abilene Spectacular 4-Year-Old Open. They earned more than $38,000, which included the stallion incentive bonus of $10,000 as the highest-placing eligible horse, for their score of 225. This gives Cattys Hope an Equi-Stat record of more than $133,280, much of which was earned with a sixth-place finish in the 2016 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Open.

Sire Line

Cattys Hope was bred in Oklahoma by Dan Churchill and purchased in the fall of 2016 by Rose Valley Ranch.  She is by Catty Hawk, who is owned by Cowan Ranch. Catty Hawk and Bill Cowan were the 2008 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro Champions. They were also eighth in the NCHA Futurity Non-Pro. Under trainer Sean Flynn, Catty Hawk was the 2009 Abilene Spectacular 4-Year-Old Open Reserve Champion. Cowan, Flynn and R.L. Chartier continued the horse’s show career until he retired with earnings of $240,282.

Catty Hawk, who is by High Brow Cat, was named the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Leading NCHA Freshman Sire in 2014. Billies Catty ($132,572) was the leading money-winner from Catty Hawk’s first crop. Cowan rode Billies Catty to the finals of the 2014 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro. Catty Hawk has an Equi-Stat offspring record of $487,953. His 14 money-earners include Cattys Bonnie Blue ($68,442), Iridescent Cat ($44,711) and Lil Bay Hawk ($43,935). Iridescent Cat carried Michelle Cowan to a Co-Reserve Championship in the 2016 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro.

Scarlet Dance ($4,661), by Peppy San Badger, is the dam of Catty Hawk. The 1992 mare was bred by Jack Waggoner and Susan Ferguson. Waggoner won the 1996 Abilene Western 4-Year-Old Limited Non-Pro on Scarlet Dance.

Scarlet Dance has produced earners of $402,381, including Cats Rhett ($53,293) and Seal Team 6 ($43,760). Cats Rhett was the 2005 AQHA World Champion Senior Cutting Horse and Seal Team 6 was the 2016 Augusta Futurity 5 & 6-Year-Old Gelding Open Co-Champion. Both are full brothers to Catty Hawk.

The dam of Scarlet Dance is Chiclynx, a daughter of Doc’s Lynx who was a finalist in the 1986 Gold & Silver 4-Year-Old Open Cutting with Bill Glass. She was a 1988 NCHA Summer Spectacular 6-Year-Old Open finalist with Wayne King. She was also shown in the Non-Pro by Waggoner, and they were finalists in events like The Non-Pro $10,000 Aged Event in 1989. Chiclynx has an Equi-Stat offspring record of $249,934, and her top performers include Cats Raffles ($129,213) and Cats Rascal ($78,344). Cats Raffles and Cats Rascal are sired by High Brow Cat, making them three-quarter brothers to Catty Hawk.

Chiclynx is out of Gay Sugar Chic (Gay Bar King x Chicy Little x Frisco). Chicy Little is out of Bay Sugar Chic, by Frisco. This makes Chicy Little inbred to Frisco with a breeding pattern of 1 X 2.

Gay Sugar Chic is the dam of Smart Chic Olena, an Equi-Stat Elite $12 Million Sire with performers in cutting, reining and reined cow horse. In reining, he is No. 4 on the all-time leading sire chart and No. 2 on the maternal grandsire chart. He is ranked No. 2 on both the leading sire and maternal grandsire charts for reined cow horses.

Dam Line

Cattys Hope’s dam, Tornados Rey Of Hope ($25,832), was a 2006 NCHA Futurity Open semifinalist shown by Ashley Baxstrom. Dan Churchill bred Tornados Rey Of Hope and showed her in the Non-Pro. They won the 2007 Kansas Cutting Horse Association (KCHA) Derby Non-Pro Co-Championship.

The win by Cattys Hope has boosted the Equi-Stat offspring record of Tornados Rey Of Hope to more than $238,000. In addition to Cattys Hope, her performers include Shes Full Of Hope, who earned $74,947. Shes Full Of Hope and R.L. Chartier were sixth in the 2016 Abilene Spectacular 4-Year-Old Open and won the $10,000 stallion incentive bonus as the highest-placing eligible horse in the finals. This gives Tornados Rey Of Hope two consecutive winners of the lucrative bonus.

Hickorys Tornado Rio ($71,576) is the dam of Tornados Rey Of Hope. Hickorys Tornado Rio and Shannon Hall won the 1997 Abilene Western Futurity Open and the 1997 KCHA Futurity Open. Dan Churchill showed the mare in the Non-Pro, and together they won the 2000 All American Quarter Horse Congress 5- & 6-Year-Old Non-Pro Classic. Hickorys Tornado Rio is the dam of foals with Equi-Stat records of $209,385, including Tornados First Mate ($88,761) and Another Tornado Mate ($61,385).

The dam of Hickorys Tornado Rio is Money Talks Rio, a daughter of Doc Quixote. Her foals have Equi-Stat records totaling $266,511. They include Mamas Money Talks ($49,191), Meradas Money Talks ($47,994) and Rio Smart Lena ($43,137). The dam of Money Talks Rio is the Burnett Ranch-bred Money From Home, by Six Chick. Her produce record shows earnings of $288,094, with her top earner being Miss Money Rio ($149,907). Money From Home is the dam of Paloma Quixote ($58,923), the dam of the 1992 NCHA Futurity Open Champion Dox Miss N Reno.

The dam of Money From Home is Cee Miss Snapper, a daughter of Cee Bars. Cee Miss Snapper is the dam of Snapper Cal Bar, the 1984 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Champion and 1985 NCHA Summer Spectacular Derby Open Champion. Snapper Cal Bar is the sire of Master Snapper, the 2006 National Reining Horse Association Derby Open Champion.

Miss Gold 59, by Hollywood Gold, is the dam of Cee Miss Snapper. Miss Gold 59’s is Miss Ollie, one of the original Burnett Ranch “Tommy mares” sired by Tom (Scooter). The dam of Miss Ollie is the Joe Graham Mare, one of the original mares purchased in the mid 1930s to rebuild the Burnett Ranch broodmare band.
