Two Yearlings Top First Session of NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Sales

MobbedInManhattanThe first horse through the ring, Mobbed In Manhattan, brought $31,000. • Photo by Alex LynchThe National Reining Horse Association (NRHA)/Markel Insurance Futurity Sales started off strong on Dec. 1 in Oklahoma City when the first two horses through the ring each sold for $31,000. A total of 100 horses were cataloged in the Marketplace Sale, and when the first session was over, Mobbed In Manhattan and Im Miffen You shared the spotlight as the highest sellers.

Hip No. 1001, Mobbed In Manhattan, was consigned by Pro Fit Equine LLC, Agent. Serge Primeu signed the ticket on the sorrel yearling stallion, who is from the second crop of NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Champion HF Mobster. Mobbed In Manhattan represents the first crop out of Manhattan Chic, a winning daughter of Smart Chic Olena.

Manhattan Chic was a multiple aged event finalist, including in the NRHA Futurity Non-Pro, during a career that saw her bank $13,521 and earn 21 points in American Quarter Horse Association competition. She is a full sister to: This Chics On Top ($79,626), dam of NRHA Derby Non-Pro Reserve Champion Tag This; This Chic N Whiz ($53,385), dam of NRHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro Co-Reserve Champion Gonna Twist N Shout; Empire Chic ($49,590); and Chic Olena Whiz ($22,570), among others.

ImMiffenYouIm Miffen You tied for the day’s top price of $31,000. • Photo by Alex LynchIm Miffen You followed Mobbed In Manhattan through the sale ring and matched his $31,000 price tag. The bay roan yearling stallion was consigned by Heritage Farms and purchased by Brad Eaves.

Im Miffen You (Jerry Lees Surprise x Mifilberry Wine x Mifillena) is a full brother to NRHA Derby Limited Open Champion Jerrys Fine Wine ($17,639) and a half-brother to Smart Spookaberry (by Smart Spook), an earner of $8,169. Im Miffen You’s dam is a full sister to Miffilberry Pie, who amassed 224.5 youth points in NRHA competition while earning $3,613. Im Miffen You’s second dam, Crome Plated Berry, was also a top youth mount, claiming an NRHA Youth World Championship while recording 322 youth points and 16.5 AQHA points.

The third-highest seller Ichabod X, was also the session’s top 2-year-old when the hammer fell at $27,000 for the sorrel colt. Brent Loseke consigned Ichabod X, who is by Topsail Whiz and out of Miss Rey O Shine, by Shining Spark. The stallion is a half-brother to Goldarey (by Smart Spook), an earner of $11,178, and Lil Miss Einshine (by Einsteins Revolution), a multiple aged event finalist who has banked $6,478. His dam was a multiple top 10 finalist who earned $159,715.
