Barnwell Ramsey Wows During NCHA Futurity Amateur

BArnwell webBarnwell Ramsey & ReyzurbetsonthiscatTopping any division at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity is no small feat, and the pressure was on during the 34-horse Rios of Mercedes Amateur finals.

When Peter Ryan marked a 217 on Drip Drop Of Reyn (Dual Smart Rey x Cats Freckles Oak x Docs Freckles Oak) as the first draw, it was clear from the start that riders would have to leave it all out in the pen if they wanted to come out with a title.

Barnwell Ramsey was able to do just that when he laid down an impressive 222 on his own Reyzurbetsonthiscat (Bet Hesa Cat x Ariel Rey x Dual Rey).

Ramsey’s score proved to be unbeatable, and with a 4.5-point lead on the nearest competitor, he walked away with the Championship and a check of $12,323. The title earnings brought his Equi-Stat record to nearly $130,000.

“He is an Open-caliber horse, and he is just really something special,” Barnwell said following his win.

Blake Graham earned a solid 217.5 on Zacks Smoothie (Smooth As A Cat x Zacks Holly Echo x Zach T Wood), and took home the Reserve Championship and $11,090.
