InthePast WhizardJacWhizard Jac won the 1996 NRHA Futurity Open under Mike Flarida • Waltenberry photoTwenty years ago, on Dec. 7, 1996, Whizard Jac carried trainer Mike Flarida to his second National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity Open Championship with a 222.5 finals score. Just one month prior to the Oklahoma City victory, Flarida guided the handsome sorrel stallion to the Open Reserve Championship in the All American Quarter Horse Congress Straight Arrow Reining Futurity in Columbus, Ohio.

Among Whizard Jac’s other show accomplishments for breeder Sally Brown, of Wayzata, Minnesota, and owners Dawn and William Pohl, of West Rushville, Ohio, was a third-place finish in the 1997 NRHA Derby Open. He also finished second in a 1999 United States Equestrian Federation’s (USEF) Qualifier in Florida, and the same year, he won the USEF Reining Championships in Gladstone, New Jersey.

An Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Sire, Whizard Jac (Topsail Whiz x Bees Honey Jac x Hollywood Jac 86) died in 2009 at the age of 16. He sired 161 money-earners who have won a total of $1,252,019 for average earnings of $7,777. Sail On Top Whizard (out of Miss N Sis x Miss N Cash), a 2005 stallion bred by Yvette Saad, of Belgium, is Whizard Jac’s leading offspring with earnings of $278,042, followed by Miss Lil Addy Tude (out of Miss Col Otoe x Colonel Four Runner), a 2003 mare bred by Christy Perkins, of Houston, Texas, with $116,312.
