In the Senior Cutting, it was Equi-Stat Elite $5 Million Rider Kobie Wood and his homebred Donas Suen Boon who took home top honors.

In the prelims, the 7-year-old mare (Boon Too Suen x Donas Cool Cat x High Brow Cat), who Wood owns with his wife, Paula, marked a 221 to finish second. The duo was eighth to work in the 15-horse finals, and their score of 226 was enough to claim the World Championship.

In 2012, Paula piloted Donas Suen Boon to the Non-Pro Championship at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity, where she also finished seventh in the Open finals with Wood. Her success in the limited-age events continued through 2015, and this season, the Woods have campaigned her at weekend shows and in the Mercuria/NCHA World Series of Cutting. When she arrived in Oklahoma, she had an Equi-Stat record totaling $344,189.

Phil Rapp piloted Gale Force Quarter Horses’ Reyzin (High Brow CD x Miss Reycine x Dual Rey) to the Reserve World Championship with a score of 222.

Junior Cutting

Stevie Rey Von has had quite the year. As the anniversary of his Open and Limited Non-Pro wins at the 2105 NCHA Futurity approaches, he just added another title to his already impressive résumé. “Stevie” and Ed Dufurrena marked a 217 in the prelims, comfortably making the finals, where they marked a 221.

Their score held the top spot until Phil Rapp and Cat N Corn (High Brow Cat x Bobcorn x Bob Acre Doc) also marked a 221, requiring a work off. Dufurrena and Stevie (Metallic Cat x Miss Ella Rey x Dual Rey) had a work off score of 222, which resulted in the World Championship. Rapp settled for Reserve.

Following the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association (PCCHA) Futurity, Stevie had accumulated a lifetime record of more than $318,000. Before the AQHA World Championship Show, his most recent titles were won with Dufurrena’s daughter, Rieta, in the saddle. They picked up the 4-Year-Old Non-Pro Championship at the West Texas Futurity, and also won the Stakes Non-Pro title at the PCCHA Futurity.

Amateur Cutting

QB Cat had a successful showing at the AQHA World Show. First, the 8-year-old gelding finished third in the Senior Cutting finals with trainer Clint Allen. Then, he returned with owner Stacie McDavid to claim the Amateur Cutting World Championship. The duo had marked a 214.5 in the prelims, and they were draw No. 4 in the finals. A score of 221 secured the World title.

QB Cat (High Brow Cat x Quintan Blue x Mecom Blue), who was bred by Marvine Ranch LLC, has garnered nearly $110,000 in the show pen, according to Equi-Stat. Allen, McDavid and McDavid’s husband, David, all showed QB Cat during his limited-age event years, and he is now making a name for himself at weekend events.

Brandon Dufurrena piloted Purple Reyn (Metallic Cat x Miss Ella Rey x Dual Rey) to a score of 220 and the Amateur Cutting Reserve World Championship.
