Sippin Boons Farm & Corey Cushing • Photo by Big Daddy PhotographyThe first week of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA)/Lucas Oil World Championship Show just wrapped up, and the cow horse competitors got their time in the spotlight. In the Junior Working Cow Horse finals, Sippin Boons Farm carried Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Rider Corey Cushing to the World Championship.
Cushing and his mount (Smart Boons x Peppy Nicolena x Nic It In The Bud) had originally tied Chris Dawson and Carol Rose’s homebred Reys A Shine (Dual Rey x Lil Miss Shiney Chex Shining Spark) for the lead with a score of 442. Then, in a runoff, Cushing and Sippin Boons Farm secured the title. Dawson ended up with Reserve honors.
The 4-year-old stallion, who is owned by Eric and Wendy Dunn, had a record of $37,774 when he arrived at the AQHA World Show. He kick-started his career in 2015 with a Reserve Championship in the Open at the National Stock Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity. This year, Cushing has piloted Sippin Boons Farm to the finals at both the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Stakes and NRCHA Derby.
Sippin Boons Farm is the top money-earner by Smart Boons, who has produced offspring with records totaling more than $105,000, and is the only money-earner out of Peppy Nicolena.
Senior Working Cow Horse
Cushing’s momentum carried over into the Senior Working Cow Horse, as well, where he claimed another World Championship with Robertson Ranches’ homebred One Fine Vintage. They ended the finals with a composite score of 450, besting their nearest competitors by an impressive 5.5-point margin.
Despite having earned more than $58,000 in the show pen prior to arriving in Oklahoma City, One Fine Vintage had not earned a check with Cushing in the saddle. Ron Emmons showed the 2009 stallion (One Time Pepto x Shiners Siena x Shining Spark) from 2012 until the end of the 2014 season, and then Phillip Ralls took over the ride in 2015. Doug Williamson also showed him once – at the 2013 AQHA World Show.
A Lil Dab Will Do (Cat Man Do x Dainty Little Step x Wimpys Little Step) carried Robert Chown to a composite score of 444.5 and the Reserve World Championship.
