The most notable increases came during the 2-year-old session, where Quejanaisacat brought the sale’s top price of $115,000.

Consigned by Charles Mills, Quejanisacat is by Cats Merada and out of the Quejanaisalena mare AR Powderfulena, who is a half-sister to cutter Crown On The Rox ($37,636, by Ill Be Smart). Quejanaisacat’s second dam is Powderful, who won the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby Open on the way to $68,213 in career earnings. Kay Williams, who also bought the top 2-year-old in the 2014 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales, signed the ticket on Quejanaisacat.

The second-highest seller also came out of the Select 2-Year-Old Sale. Bet He Sparks sold for $70,000, according to the managing sale company, Parnell Dickinson. The 2014 colt is by NCHA Open World Champion Bet Hesa Cat and out of NRCHA Open Two-Rein World Champion Sparking Train, by Shining Spark. Louis Schuette consigned Bet He Sparks, who is a half-brother to Delighting Express ($4,876, by CD Lights). Kathryn Phillips is the new owner.

Four of the top 10 sellers came out of the Select 2-Year-Old Sale, which recorded increases in both average and median. The average price, excluding repurchases, was $20,710, which is a 28 percent increase over last year’s average of $15,701. The median rose 27 percent, from $11,375 to $15,000.

The highest-selling yearling came from the Select Yearling and Broodmare Sale. Metallic Babe (Metallic Cat x Shes A Stylish Babe x Docs Stylish Oak) was consigned by Rick Ford as agent for Doug Carpenter, and sold for $55,000 to Jim and Linda Schrack. Metallic Babe is a half-brother to several high-performing cutting horses, including Cat Stevens ($89,001, by High Brow Cat), Babes Stylish Cat ($53,107, by High Brow Cat), Blazin Smart Babe ($32,894, by Smart Little Lena) and others.

The Select Yearling and Broodmare Sale was the only session to post a decrease in average, dropping 20 percent from $17,240 to $14,079. The median fell only slightly, from $10,000 to $9,900, while the number of completed sales rose from 90 percent to 92 percent. The Classic Yearling and Broodmare Sale average increased 8 percent, while the Performance Horse Sale average rose 27 percent.
