This year was no different. To get a seat on the first day of the sale, when 84 yearlings were consigned, guests needed to get there early.

There were plenty of impressive reining horses that went through the sale ring during the Legacy Reining Breeders Sale, including Hip No. 37, Guns In Your Face, who turned heads as the bids rose to $78,000. The double-registered palomino stallion consigned by McQuay Stables Inc. was purchased by Paul Reed and was the sale’s highest seller.

Guns In Your Face is by National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Open Reserve World Champion Yellow Jersey (Wimpys Little Step x Ms Clara Melody x Mr Melody Jac), who has an Equi-Stat record of more than $150,000. Guns In Your Face is out of Gunners Doll Face (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Sidewinders Doll x Docs Sidewinder), who has five money-earners with records totaling $37,191.

Hip No. 66, Ladysdreamofblueeyes, claimed the spot as the sale’s second-highest seller when the hammer fell at $63,000. The sorrel yearling stallion was purchased by Tim Anderson and consigned by Booth Ranches LLC.

Ladysdreamofblueyes is by Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Sire Magnum Chic Dream (Smart Chic Olena x Sailin Barbee x Topsail Cody) and out of 2008 NRHA Futurity Open finalist Check Your Gun Lady (Dun It Gotta Gun x Cee Blair Lady x Blair Cee).

Anne-Marie Burns consigned the highest-selling broodmare, Shock Star Groupie, who was purchased for $36,500 by Green Valley Reining Horses from the Legacy Reining Consignment Sale. The 7-year-old mare has a performance record of $38,524 and sold in foal to Gunners Special Nite (Gunner x Mifs Doll x Mifillena).

Shock Star Groupie is by the NRHA’s newest Three Million Dollar Sire, Jacs Electric Spark (Shining Spark x Miss Hello Hollywood x Hollywood Jac 86), and out of Lovin Me Good (Colonels Lil Gun x Sugar Baby Whiz x Topsail Whiz).

Legacy Reining Sales Co-Manager Mandy McCutcheon was excited about the outcome of this year’s sale, and she is already looking forward to next year’s turnout.

“If my buyers and consigners are happy, then I am happy,” she said. “I really thought everyone was happy this year. It went really well, and I was really thrilled with everything. The horses that were brought to this sale all looked good and were in great shape.”
