Final Champions Crowned at PCCHA Futurity

AutumnRey BMartin HHarrel102016Bonnie Martin & Autumn ReyThe final day of the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association (PCCHA)/Holy Cow Performance Horses Futurity wrapped up with the Derby Unlimited Amateur finals, and it was Bonnie Martin and Autumn Rey that walked away with the Championship.

Martin and the mare (Dual Rey x Autumn White x Smart Little Lena) marked a 223 for the title and added $4,000 to their records. Right after the Las Vegas resident purchased Autumn Rey, they won the Derby Unlimited Amateur at the Breeder’s Invitational in May, as well.

Including the additional $2,464 the duo earned for winning the Senior Championship, the Slate River Ranch-bred mare has garnered nearly $48,000 in the show pen. Martin elevated her record to more than $815,000.

Two Time Dual (Dual Rey x Lil Lena Long Legs x Smart Little Lena) carried Jimmy Baros to a score of 220, and Michelle Barnes matched their score aboard Look Whos Smooth (Smooth As A Cat x Desires Rey x Dual Rey) for the Co-Reserve Championship. Each rider earned a $3,375 paycheck.

Classic/Challenge Unlimited Amateur

Von Sutten has had a successful year so far with One Stylish Pepto, and they added another title to their résumés when they clinched the Classic/Challenge Unlimited Amateur Championship with a score of 221.

The Champion’s check was worth $4,000, and they also won the Gelding Championship for an additional $2,800, which brings the gelding (One Time Pepto x Frecklesareinstyle x Docs Stylish Oak) to total earnings of nearly $30,000.

Sutten, of Fort Worth, Texas, also placed third with his other mount, Dual Famous Cat (High Brow Cat x Dual Peppy Kitty x Dual Pep), and elevated his Equi-Stat record to more than $375,000.

The finals ended in a tie for the Reserve Championship. Nate Valley and Two Smart A Cat (WR This Cats Smart x Pistol Smart x Smart Little Lena) and Eric Van Boekel and Peppys Cashin Checks (Im Countin Checks x Peppys Stylish Lena x Docs Stylish Oak) both earned a score of 219 and $3,375.

Classic/Challenge Amateur

Nate Valley, of Encinitas, California, followed up his Unlimited Amateur Reserve title with a win in the Classic/Challenge Amateur with Two Smart A Cat. He may have been the youngest rider in the set of 13 horses, but his score of 220 was the highest, and he took home another $2,500.

The 14-year-old also showed the mare in the Junior Youth Invitational earlier in the day and they picked up another Reserve title. Valley nearly quadrupled his Equi-Stat record in just one day at the PCCHA Futurity and now has total earnings in excess of $8,000. Two Smart A Cat has garnered nearly $60,000 in her career.

Vince McBurney and Juan Time (One Time Pepto x Perry Shorts x Shorty Lena) were the Reserve Champions with a score of 218.5, and they took home $2,250.
