Competition was fierce in the Ford Truck Arena with a tough field of 175 total entries across all levels.

Jack Medows and Chicsdreamofdiamonds won the Level 4 Non-Pro Championship with a 223.5, banking $5,477. The mare, by Magnum Chic Dream and out of Princess In Diamonds (by Shining Spark), is a half-sister to Medows’ 2016 American Quarter Horse Youth Association Reining World Champion, Surprizentheprincess (by Jerry Lees Surprise). Those particular bloodlines hold a special place in Medows’ heart.

“Both of them (Chicsdreamofdiamonds and Surprizentheprincess) are such people pleasers,” Medows said. “They don’t want to do anything wrong. If they do, you just have to ask nicely, and they won’t do it again. That’s a really great quality to have.”

Medows and Chicsdreamofdiamonds put together a stellar run to take the win with big stops and superb spins, but Medows said he wasn’t focused on speed. He just wanted to be correct, and then he relied on his mount’s natural power to take care of the rest.

“She was just so good everywhere,” he added of Chicsdreamofdiamonds’ performance on Friday. “It was a really cool feeling to go in there and [feel] her almost relax. She almost relaxed more inside the show pen than she did riding the night before, which is a really cool feeling. I just sent her down the pen to stop her, and she stopped huge!”

Medows said although he has had big wins before, none have been quite like this. He thanked his family for their support and Fernando Salgado for his help preparing the mare before Medows was able to make it to Tulsa this week.

“This is just an amazing feeling,” he said. “I’ve never really done this well before at a pre-futurity event, and so I’m super excited about this. There are so many good horses out here today, and I’m excited that she was honest with me.”
