Lenas Telesis (Doc O’Lena x Preliminary Plans x Colonel Freckles) is pictured with trainer Doug Jordan at the 1991 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Super Stakes. Jordan and the 1987 stallion, bred and owned by Jimmie Rogers, of Rohnert Park, California, won the event’s 4-Year-Old Open Championship and a $48,632 paycheck. Jordan, who has $615,454 in lifetime earnings, rode Lenas Telesis to an eighth-place tie in the 1990 NCHA Futurity Open finals.

Rogers had been searching for a mare with just the right breeding when a friend, California horse trader George Lucas, found Preliminary Plans. The 1978 mare was purchased from Marjorie Padgett and bred to Doc O’Lena in 1986. When Lenas Telesis was born, Rogers knew he was special – his sire was an NCHA Futurity Open Champion and his dam was sired by an NCHA Futurity Open Champion. Even his name indicated possible greatness with Rogers pointing out that part of the horse’s name (Telesis) is defined as an electronic communications term which means progress intelligently planned.

Lenas Telesis was started by Tex Lovett and then put in training with Jordan late in his 2-year-old year.

“I knew this horse was capable of winning a major event,” Jordan said following his NCHA Super Stakes victory.

Jordan and Rogers were correct. Lenas Telesis’ Equi-Stat record totals $148,675, but his sire record goes well beyond that. The stallion has sired 213 money-earners who have won a total of $3,558,537 for average earnings of $16,707.
