The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) announced the 10 riders chosen to compete in the $20,000-added NRHA Invitational Freestyle Reining presented by the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau. The event will be held during the NRHA Futurity and Adequan® NAAC, which runs from Nov. 24 through Dec. 3 in Oklahoma City.
Eighteen NRHA members submitted freestyle reining videos that were posted on the NRHA’s Facebook page. Throughout the month of August, the public had their chance to vote on each video. The four videos with the most likes determined who would advance to the Freestyle competition. Those four riders are: Terri June Granger, of Dothan, Alabama; Robyn Schiller, of Hollister, California; Amber Edmonds, of Pepperell, Massachusetts; and Olivia Pakula, of Scottsdale, Arizona.
The three highest-scoring riders from the 2015 All American Quarter Horse Congress Freestyle Reining and 2016 RAM Invitational NRHA Freestyle Reining have also been invited to compete. Those six riders are: Pete Kyle, Drake Johnson and Heather Johnson from the Congress, and Bub Poplin, Shane Brown and Steve Schwartzenberger from the RAM Invitational.
The freestyle competition will take place on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Jim Norick Arena at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. Tickets will be available online at nrhafuturity.com.
