A total of 108 entries across all levels competed in the Ford Truck Arena, and three new champions were crowned.

Franco Bertolani riding Dun It For Whizkey won the Futurity Level 4 Open Championship with a score of 223.5, earning $15,766 plus an Elite Saddlery championship saddle. Dun It For Whizkey, by Topsail Whiz and out of Dun It For Chex (by Hollywood Dun It), is a homebred belonging to Cardinal Hill Training Center.

“Here in Tulsa it’s always a big, tough futurity, and I was pretty happy to have this horse here. He was great,” Bertolani said. “It was the first time I’ve shown him, and I’m so happy and proud of him.”

Dun It For Whizkey and Bertolani had a stellar run in the show pen with snappy maneuvers and big, beautiful stops. Bertolani said he was impressed with his mount’s showing and wouldn’t change a thing about the day. The duo is slated to show at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in October, after which they will go to the National Reining Horse Association Futurity.

Brian Bell and Kind Of A Big Dual (Mister Nicadual x Dun It On A Star x Hollywood Dun It) received the Level 4 Open Reserve title after marking a 222. They took home $9,597 to owner Crews Reining Horses LLC.

Oops Itsa Spooks is by Spooks Gotta Gun and out of the Hollywood Dun It mare Tejons Finally Dunit. He is owned by AC Quarter Horses and has been with Diano since his 2-year-old year.

“It’s always amazing when you work that hard and it’s the first time you show a horse. You don’t know what’s going to happen, and this horse ended up being great in the show pen,” Diano said.

Oops Its Spooks has continued to impress his trainer ever since he was purchased.

“Since [he was 2 years old], he’s been great,” Diano said. “I mean every time, every training, every day it’s been easy for him. I got a new customer that came and bought him, so [the win held] a lot of emotion, because I think he’s a lot of horse and I think he’s going to be a horse that everyone will remember.”

Martin Muehlstaetter and Marc and Kathy Gordon’s Wimpys Smokin Girl (Wimpys Little Step x Please Dont Spook x Grays Starlight) picked up the Reserve title in the Level 3 Open, worth $3,673, with their score of 219.50.

Hollywood Hype is by Hollywoodstinseltown and out of Shiners Miss Lena (by Shining Spark). Salgado and the stallion have only been partners since January, and the win was memorable for the trainer. He said any deductions on the run were no fault of the horse.

“It feels real good. I’m really, really happy with him. We still had a one point penalty on the turn, but it was my fault, not his,” Salgado said with a smile. “This horse is very special for me. I would like to thank Carol Rose, [because] she was the one who told the owners to send him to me. Since I got him he’s getting better and better, and we get along really well.

“Megan and Ryan Humphrey bought him and they are being really supportive and helping me a lot,” he continued. “They are keeping him in training with me and letting me show, so I really appreciate the help from Carol, Megan and Ryan.”

Austin Lee Roush and Shiney Chexy Chic (Shine Chic Shine x TH Great Big Chex x Ml Great Badger), as well as Nite Bizness (Gunners Special Nite x Hollywood Biz Whiz x Topsail Whiz) and Gabriel Borges, shared the Futurity Level 2 Open Reserve title, worth $1,142 each, with their matching scores of 217.50. Shiney Chexy Chic is owned by Robert Sutherland, while Nite Bizness belongs to Troop Quarter Horses.
