Sweet Baby Marie and Matt Miller Win West Texas Futurity Open

The 3-Year-Old finals consisted of 25 horse-and-rider combinations vying for the first Futurity Open title of the 2016 season. After it was all said and done, Sweet Baby Marie walked away with the Championship.

Piloted by Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Dollar Rider Matt Miller, Joel and Jayne Colgrove’s Grace Ranch-bred mare (High Brow CD x Hangem High Pep x Hickorys Indian Pep) was consistent throughout the first and second go-rounds, marking a 216 and a 216.5, respectively. From the fourth draw in the first set of the finals, Sweet Baby Marie and Miller earned a 222 and collected a paycheck for $15,000.

Miller, of Poolville, Texas, kicked off the year with a win in the Abilene Spectacular 4-Year-Old Open with Amandas CD, and he had garnered more than $230,000 so far in 2016 prior to arriving in Amarillo, Texas.

DMAC Piccolo Pete and Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Rider Clint Allen marked a 221 for the Reserve Championship, which was worth $13,000.
