Reproduction Veterinarian Harassed Following Horse Sale

Using Facebook analytics on her business page, Arnold found that 95 percent of those attacking her on social media were women ages 25-34 using mobile devices, with the majority of those commenting located in California, New York and Florida. Between July 26 and Aug. 1, her page received 1,485 page views, a 149 percent increase from her normal traffic.

Moving forward, Arnold said she intends to discontinue the use of social media for her business. She also admitted it will be difficult for her to be as “open and warm” to “unknown persons” in the future, as this situation has deeply affected her ability to trust people she does not know.

As for any reproductively unsound recipient mares, Arnold’s plan for the future will include trying to donate them to 501(c)(3) organizations like the Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, although she has already encountered a labor-intensive process with this avenue for rehoming her horses. She also plans to experiment with advertising them online; however, she is adamant that they be rehomed to a suitable setting.

“We are going to request a letter from their veterinarian,” she said, referring to potential adopters. “One of my main concerns is that the recipient mare actually gets an appropriate home and not suffer at the hands of an uneducated horse person who cannot afford to take care of or feed a horse.”
