When Reyzin The Cash and Equi-Stat Elite $3 Million Rider Gary Gonsalves entered the Will Rogers Coliseum on July 22, 2016, they were returning to the scene of their biggest win to date – the 2015 NCHA Summer Spectacular Derby Open. When they left the arena, they had marked a 229 to win the NCHA Summer Spectacular Classic/Challenge Open. They earned $51,250 for owner/breeder Tom Bailey, of Iron Rose Ranch LLC in Carbondale, Colorado.

Those two wins can be considered redemption for a lost opportunity. As a 3-year-old, Reyzin The Cash won the first round of the 2014 NCHA Futurity Open, but lost a cow in the second round. Since then, Reyzin The Cash has banked $154,354, adding a win in the 2015 Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Core Balance Derby Open to his NCHA Derby score.

The Nick

The mating of Doc Bar on Poco Bueno-line mares is a foundation nick in the performance horse industry. Through the years, this has been a great nick that has contributed greatly to the pedigrees of successful show horses. But this nick is founded on another important nick, and the fact that Poco Lena and Poco Tivio are full brother and sister points to that nick.

IntheBlood DB-PBOne of the great nicks in the performance horse industry is that of Doc Bar (left) on mares from the Poco Bueno (right) line.

E. Paul Waggoner bought and developed Poco Bueno as a show horse and sire. When he put a Poco Bueno broodmare band together, two daughters of Pretty Boy were brought into the band. The mares were Sheilwin and Pretty Rosalie. Sheilwin produced Poco Lena, Poco Tivio, Pretty Boy Pokey and Poco Champ. Pretty Rosalie produced Poco Stampede, Poco Pine and Poco Paul Dee. These American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Champions represent seven of Poco Bueno’s 36 AQHA Champions. The Poco Bueno/Pretty Boy cross represents the blood of King P-234 through his son Poco Bueno and Peter McCue, the great grandsire of Pretty Boy.

Reyzin The Cash is proving to be a winner whose pedigree is built on many famous and important horses. He, like many, has several crosses to the Doc Bar on Poco Bueno-line mares nick, which was built on another great nick of King P-234 on Peter McCue.
