Dufurrena’s father and Stevie Rey Von’s owner, Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Rider Ed Dufurrena, rode the stallion to win the Open Championship at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity last fall. Dufurrena, of Gainesville, Texas, and Stevie Rey Von won the NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro title, too. In 2016, he and Dufurrena’s father picked up the Derby Open Reserve Championship at the Abilene Spectacular, and Dufurrena clinched the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby Non-Pro Reserve Championship.

In Amarillo, Texas, Dufurrena and Stevie Rey Von (Metallic Cat x Miss Ella Rey x Dual Rey), who was bred by Dufurrena’s brother, Brandon Dufurrena, topped the first go-round with a 222 before claiming the Championship by a 5-point margin as draw No. 7 in the 13-horse finals. With this payday, Dufurrena’s Equi-Stat record surpassed the $260,000 mark, and Stevie Rey Von has more than $290,000 to his name.

McKenzie Merrill and Justa Lil Catfight (High Brow Cat x Justapepto x Peptoboonsmal) took home the 4-Year-Old Non-Pro Reserve Championship and $7,800 with a score of 219.
