“I’ve had this horse since August last year and we had some trouble getting to know each other. This is the first time I’ve really gotten him shown good, so I was really happy with him. He was awesome,” Kelkenberg said.

The 4-year-old stallion (Magnum Chic Dream x Heavenly Rooster x Gallo Del Cielo [Rooster]), who was bred by Zachary Gregg, received $940 for the title, plus $1,104 for placing third in Level 2 and $1,295 for tying for sixth in Level 3. The payday boosted him to $5,242 in Equi-Stat, nearly tripling his previous earnings.

Heza Hollywood Legend (PT), ridden by Nicole Hutchings, as well as Zins Rowdy Whiz, navigated by Daphne Thompson, tied for the Derby Level 1 Open Reserve Championship with their matching 217s, which paid them each $651. Heza Hollywood Legend (PT) (Custom Legend x LS Hollywood Chic [PT] x LS Dun It In Color [PT]) was bred by Susan Gay, of Westminster, Vermont, and belongs to Gloria Grove and Michael Jackson, of Arlington, Washington. Beverly Hills, California-based Sleipner LLC’s Zins Rowdy Whiz (Topsail Whiz x Smart Rowdy Lady x Smart Chic Olena) was bred by Patricia Moore.
