SpotMePerfect CYohey 072016Courtney Yohey & Spot Me PerfectJust a few days after their success at the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby, Courtney Yohey and Spot Me Perfect (PT) earned two American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) World championships. The first came in the Youth Reining 14-18, where the duo marked an impressive 217, besting their nearest competitor by a 6.5-point margin.

After taking their victory lap and picking up their prizes, Yohey and Spot Me Perfect (Mark This Spot [PT] x Shesa Perfect Diamond [PT] x Like A Diamond [PT]) returned to the arena for the Youth Limited Working Cow Horse. Their composite score of 406.5 earned them top honors.

Yohey was ecstatic after both of her wins and said she was proud of her horse for being consistent throughout both of her runs.

“He turned better today than I’ve ever probably turned him in a pen,” Yohey said following her first run. “That’s my highest score on him in the reining.”

After earning $350 in the NRHA Derby Non-Pro Youth finals, Spot Me Perfect has an Equi-Stat record of more than $1,200, and Yohey surpassed $10,000 in earnings.

In the Youth Reining 14-18, Emory Marsh and JJ Got A Gun (Spooks Gotta Gun x Oh Cay Mary x Oh Cay Quixote) marked a 210.5 for the Reserve title.

Caitlin Witte and Roany Rey Jay (Boonlight Dancer x Rey Janie Starlight x Grays Starlight) picked up the Youth Limited Working Cow Horse Reserve Championship with a composite score of 397.5.

Novice Youth Reining

VegasMadeMeDoIt SGross 072016Samantha Gross & Vegas Made Me Do ItUnderwood, Washington, native Samantha Gross travelled a long way for the AjPHA World Show, and she was not going to leave empty handed. Even though reining is not the discipline she is most comfortable with, she and Vegas Made Me Do It (PT) took home the World Championship in the Novice Youth Reining.

Gross and her 8-year-old gelding (FPF Lethal Weapon [PT] x Almost Kissed [PT] x Kiss My Zippo [PT]) are much more accustomed to the hunter under saddle and hunter over fences classes, but the duo marked a 187.5 to clinch the reining title.

“I’m ecstatic right now,” Gross said. “I just took my pattern horse in there thinking we could come out with maybe third or fourth, so this is all very exciting.”

Amanda Nelson and Mr Verifiable (PT) (Artistitc Hot Pants [PT] x Sheza Classy Mr x Mr Conclusion) picked up the Reserve Championship with a score of 183.
