Classic/Challenge Amateur

The Derby Amateur finals had 35 horse and rider combinations vying for top honors. Cutting what proved to be tough cattle, the competitors had to bring the magic to be successful.

From the 12th draw of the first set, Zachary Bahm was able to do just that on his grandfather’s Donald and Jane Wolf-bred Metallic N Blu (Metallic Cat x Haidas Little Lass x Haidas Little Pep). The pair marked an impressive 218.5, and topped the finals by 1.5 points.

The Championship was worth $9,654, which pushed Bahm’s Equi-Stat record to more than $80,000

“This is really a dream come true,” Bahm said about winning his first-ever Championship in the Will Rogers Coliseum.

A 217 earned Sadye Simpson with Metallic Little Cat (Metallic Cat x Seca Rey Lena x Dual Rey) and Colton Wade Smith with Lil Pep N Time (One Time Pepto x Shortys Lil Pep x Dual Pep) a Co-Reserve Championship and a check of $6,525.
