Tulsa Reining Classic Announces 2016 Clinicians

TRC Clinic2Matt Mills will be hosting this year’s “View From the Judge’s Chair.”The Global Reining Sport Group is pleased to announce the quality clinicians slated to teach at the Tulsa Reining Classic, scheduled for Aug. 29-Sept. 4. Top-notch professionals Justin “Gunny” Mathison, Terry Thompson and Matt Mills will serve as this year’s educators.

Instructing the youth reining horsemanship clinic participants at this year’s event will be returning fan favorite Mathison. A National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) earner of more than $700,000, Mathison is a multiple finalist at every NRHA major event. Based in Valley View, Texas, Mathison Reining Horses offers futurity and derby horse training, as well as non-pro instruction. Regularly seen in the spotlight of major events, Mathison also has an innate ability to relate to and teach youth riders. Students will have fun improving horsemanship, showing skills and confidence.

Forty-eight-year reining veteran and non-pro coach extraordinaire Terry Thompson will serve as the non-pro reining horsemanship coach for the first time in 2016. Formerly teaching the smash hit “View From the Judge’s Chair” seminar, Thompson is a well-qualified trainer and coach, and an experienced judge. He has earned more than $320,000 and more than 200 Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) World championships while in the saddle, and has also coached more than 200 youth and non-pro ApHC World champions.

Consistent NRHA Top 20 Professional Matt Mills will take over the “View From the Judge’s Chair” seminar at the Tulsa Reining Classic this year. A multiple finalist at NRHA major events and a previous NRHA Futurity Intermediate Open Reserve Champion, Mills has also been a successful non-pro and youth coach over the years. As an experienced NRHA judge in addition to his showing and coaching experience, Mills holds the “trifecta” perspective on achieving the maximum possible on an exhibitor’s score card.

Participation in the clinics, which are in their sixth consecutive year and are sponsored by the Global Reining Sport Group, is free.
