When Russell Dilday and Topsails Rien Maker won their third World’s Greatest Horseman title in 2011, they cemented their place in the annals of reined cow horse history as a legendary team. The recent loss of Topsails Rien Maker brings an end to the saga of this great team, but not to the legend of Topsails Rien Maker, one of the most versatile horses to grace the performance arena.

Some of his other titles included the 2008 and 2011 National Stock Horse Association’s World’s Richest Stock Horse Championship, and 2004 National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Open Hackamore World Championship. Up until February 2016, he was the all-time leading money-winning reined cow horse with earnings of $371,472. Olena Oak surpassed that mark with his win in the World’s Greatest Horseman under Ron Emmons.

Topsails Rien Maker was bred by the Stellato Revocable Trust, of Redding, California, and foaled in 1999. He was owned by a number of people including Dana Roulet, Ward Ranch and Kevin Cantrelle. In 2004, Cantrelle and Dilday formed the partnership that would remain until the stallion’s death, which was due to kidney failure.

The sire of Jameen Gay is Toby Gay Bar, a National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) money-earner. He sired only 16 AQHA performers, of which eight are point-earners. His leading point-earner is Berrys Enola Gay, an AQHA Youth World Champion in Heading who racked up points in reining, Heading and heeling. Berrys Enola Gay also became Toby Gay Bar’s No. 1 producing daughter, adding to his maternal grandsire record of 82 grandget with 25 point- or money-earners. Vegas Lil is out of Lil Minnie Moore, who is by Vegas Moore, giving Vegas Lil a 1 x 2 inbreeding pattern to the stallion.

The pedigrees of champions have all kinds of influences coming from all levels of performance down to even no performance. This proves that only when all the genes line up are legends born. Long live the legend of Topsails Rien Maker.
