DMT UNBRIDLING

A Practical Guide to Unbridling

DMT UNBRIDLINGOne of the most important aids used in communication with your horse is your bridle reins. It’s nice to have reins http://bit.ly/1M9qR75 that are hanging freely with no twists, kinks or folds at the start of each ride. Your horse will appreciate it as much as you do!

This is an easy, efficient way to unbridle that leaves your bridle, including reins, ready to hang the instant you remove it from your horse. This method will keep your reins untangled and flowing smoothly so you’re always ready to ride!

1. After dismounting place the left rein (white arrows) under your horse’s neck & drape it back over the top of his neck on the right side so the rein end falls on the left side of your horse. Be sure to lay the rein evenly and check that there are no twists or kinks in the rein.

2. Next place the right rein (black arrows) under your horse’s neck and drape it back over the top of his neck on the left side so the end falls on the right side of your horse. Again, make certain there are no twists or kinks in the rein.

3. Now bring (slide) the reins forward up the neck so they are resting at the top of the neck and behind the ears. Tie or buckle your halter around your horse’s neck just past where the reins are resting. Slide the reins forward and carefully remove the bridle being sure not to rush and bump your horse’s teeth with the bit. Finish haltering your horse.

4. Hang the bridle on its hook and give it one last check to make sure nothing is kinked or twisted. Your bridle, with reins hanging flat and smoothly, is now ready for your next ride.

At Dennis Moreland Tack we cut every handmade rein we make from dense, tight fibered premium hides that have been especially chosen just for reins. Every pair is cut together to make certain the reins are as equal as they can be. Each rein is edged by hand then rubbed with saddle soap, pure Neatsfoot oil, and again with saddle soap. This gives the edges of the reins a smooth, even feel in your hands.

The reins at Dennis Moreland Tack are crafted with a particular end-user in mind. If you’re not sure which of our reins would best fit your needs, give us a call at 817-312-5305.
