The weather in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was hot as the Derby classes began at the Breeder’s Invitational, and the competition in the Unlimited Amateur matched the temperature.
In the 12-horse finals, Bonnie Martin, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and her mare Autumn Rey (Dual Rey x Autumn White x Smart Little Lena) came in as the 9th draw and laid down a solid 222 to claim the Championship.
“Everything just stayed together for us in the middle,” Martin said. “She was just so strong.”
The win in the division was worth $7,469, which pushed Autumn Rey, who was bred by Slate River Ranch, of Weatherford, Texas, to lifetime earnings of $16,421.
Jennifer Rector and her Kathy Knost-bred mare Smooth Reyn (Smooth As A Cat x Ruby Reyn x Dual Rey) marked a 218.5 for the Reserve Championship, worth $5,845.
