Carolina Classic Derby Open Ends With Tie

Rocky Dare, of Salem, New Jersey, marked a 148 riding Bruce and Susan Kuryloski’s 6-year-old gelding Shiney Tag (Whiz N Tag Chex x JDS Shining Image x Shining Spark), bred by Lance Griffin, to top the Derby Level 2 Open. The duo garnered $2,457 for the win, as well as $4,270 for finishing third and second in Levels 4 and 3, respectively.

The Derby Level 1 Open Co-Championship went to Gunnagetyagun (Gunners Special Nite x Custom Fascination x Custom Crome) and Wind It Up Shiner (Smart Like Juice x Wind Her Up Shiner x Shining Spark).

Ridden by Lee Mancini, of Howell, Michigan, Gunnagetyagun earned a 144.5 from the judges from draw 19. The 4-year-old Darling Farm LLC-bred mare and her rider took home $1,766 to owner Kathleen Monico, of Park Rapids, Minnesota.

Wind It Up Shiner was shown by Alejandro Ortiz Vasquez for owner/breeder Smart Like Juice Inc. For their 144.5, they also garnered a total of $1,766.
