grantIchis My Choice & Grant SetnickaDuring the final day of the Breeder’s Invitational, riders in the Derby Open and Non-Pro divisions made sure they pulled out all of the stops.

In the 27-horse Derby Open, Ichis My Choice (Cat Ichi x My Little Abra x Abrakadabracre) and Grant Setnicka were the first out, and they threw down a blazing 225 to set the bar high.

And although Amandas CD (High Brow CD x Amanda Stargun x Playgun) and Matt Miller marked a solid 222.5 for the Reserve Championship, Setnicka’s high score held up for the win.

The title on the EE Ranches-bred mare brought $58,766 for owner J5 Horse Ranch LLC, and the whole team is thrilled about the win.

“She got really settled in and had a great run,” Setnicka said.

Derby Non-Pro

In the Derby Non-Pro it was a close competition, but Kyle Manion and homebred Miss Meow (High Brow Cat x Shes Pretty Smooth x Wheeling Peppy) edged out the rest of the entries by 1 point.

As the third draw in the 19-horse finals, they marked a 221 to claim the Championship, worth $27,308. The win pushed the full sister of Smooth As A Cat to an Equi-Stat record of $63,513.

“It has been a great day,” Manion said. “It’s been great for the family and the bloodlines that we have raised.”

Bonnie Martin and Tricks On You (Smooth As A Cat x Trick Pepto x Peptoboonsmal) earned a 220 for the Reserve Championship, worth $27,308.
