Moms Stylish Player & Kenny PlattThe Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes wrapped up Saturday, April 16, with the Open finals, a class chock-full of talented 4-year-old cutting horses. Moms Stylish Player and Kenny Platt, who were extremely successful throughout the go-rounds, secured the Championship.
Moms Stylish Player (Lizzys Gotta Player x Moms Stylish Babe x Docs Stylish Oak), bred by Drummond Land and Cattle, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, carried Kenny Platt to a win in the first round of the Open with a 226. In the second go-round, the duo again led the pack after marking a 219 for a 445 composite.
When “Sprout” and Platt, of Fort Lupton, Colorado, returned for the Open semifinals, they turned the heat up again, earning a 223 from the judges and once again topping the field. It all came down to the 24-horse Open finals.
From draw three in the second set, Platt piloted Sprout to a stellar 228 which held for the Open Championship. In exchange for their crowd-pleasing run, the 4-year-old gelding took home a $91,969 paycheck to owner Robert Tregemba, of Castle Rock, Colorado. He also won the gelding class, pushing Sprout’s Equi-Stat record to more than $105,000.
“I just told myself tonight to keep showing like I’ve been showing through the rounds,” Platt said after his winning run. “I’ve just been giving this horse a fair opportunity to be what he can be.”
From the draw just before Platt’s, Equi-Stat Elite $1 Million Rider Grant Setnicka rode Ichis My Choice (Cat Ichi x My Little Abra x Abrakadabracre) to a 222.5, earning them a second-place finish. The Open Reserve Championship paid $59,581 to J Five Horse Ranch Management LLC, of Weatherford, Texas, who owns the EE Ranches of Texas Inc.-bred mare.
