Bear Davis Tops NCHA Super Stakes Unlimited Amateur

Classic Unlimited Amateur

The highest score of the day was posted when Jackie Davison, of Rockwall, Texas, rode Eddie and Barbara Young’s Cajun Grace to an extraordinary 221 in the Classic Unlimited Amateur finals. Davison was fourth to go out of 39 horses, but her score held up until the end, resulting in a payday worth $9,820.

With this win, Davison’s Equi-Stat record jumped to more than $10,000, and Cajun Grace (High Brow CD x Pepto Olenas Dually x Peptoboonsmall), who was bred by Pine Island Ranch, now has earnings in excess of $45,000.

Davison had taken a year off from showing when she had a child, so she was excited to start her comeback off with a win.

“This is my first show back, and she’s just such a great mare,” Davison said with a smile after she collected her champion belt buckle.

Eric Vanboekel and Peppys Cashin Checks (Im Countin Checks x Peppys Stylish Lena x Docs Stylish Oak) marked a 218 to clinch the Reserve title and a check for $9,384.

Parke Greeson, who got his start in the reined cow horse pen, topped the Classic Amateur finals with a score of 218.5 aboard Milton and Bridey Greeson’s Rumorhazzitt. The Championship came with a check worth $8,004.

The win pushed Greeson’s total lifetime record past the $100,000 mark, according to Equi-Stat. Meanwhile, Rumorhazzitt (One Time Pepto x Jerries Dual Legacy x Smart Little Jerry) elevated his record to nearly $69,000.

“We cut three cows and just stayed out of the penalty box,” Greeson, of Victoria, Texas, said of his strategy for the finals.

Grace Vangilder rode her own Smooth As Puddin (Smooth As A Cat x Punkin Tari x Taris Jessie) to the Reserve Championship and a payday worth $7,659 with a score of 218.
