Hedlund and Meteles Cat Win Third Championship This Year

C MetelesCat CHedlund 16KBPCody Hedlund & Meteles CatCody Hedlund and Meteles Cat have won every 5/6-Year-Old Non-Pro finals they have entered in 2016 – and their showing at The Cattlemen’s Derby and Classic was no different. The duo marked a 221 to win the Classic Non-Pro, a title that came with $7,500.

“It’s unbelievable. I can’t say anything. There’s no words for it. There’s so much luck involved; there’s just so many factors,” said Hedlund, of Lipan, Texas, on winning three championships this year.

Meteles Cat (Metallic Cat x Teles Lies x Lenas Telesis) was bred by Hedlund’s father, Rock Hedlund. He has banked earnings of $357,925. Of that total, $32,820 was earned in 2016 from non-pro championships at The Ike Derby and Classic, the Bonanza Cutting and now The Cattlemen’s. Hedlund’s own record now stands at more than $680,000. He and Meteles Cat will next try their hand at winning a championship at the National Cutting Horse Association Super Stakes.

Tammy Jones rode SDP Moms CD to a 219, taking home the Reserve Championship. SDP Moms CD (High Brow CD x Playboys Mom x Freckles Playboy) is a 6-year-old mare who was bred by Buffalo Ranch. She is owned by The Over Forty Ranch, of Cushing, Oklahoma. With the $6,000 paycheck the duo received, Jones’ Equi-Stat record has reached $160,440.
