Colton Smith and Lil Pep N Time came out from the fifth draw to mark a 220 early, and it seemed the score would hold for the Championship.

But from the 17th draw, Cooper Cogdell rode Kitty Krack Korn to an outstanding run, and the scoreboard lit up with a 221.5. Cogdell and “Kit” took home the Championship and $3,000, while Smith and Matthews Cutting Horses LLC-bred Lil Pep N Time (One Time Pepto x Shortys Lil Pep x Dual Pep) ended up Reserve and received $2,800.

“She was super good today. I was really, really proud of her,” Cogdell said. “We had some tougher cows in the bottom of the set. It was fun to get her through her run.”

Kit (Wild Haired Cat x Gunnin For Sweets x Playgun) is a 6-year-old mare who was bred by Bret Wayne Parsons, of Carlock, Illinois. Her owner, who is from Tulia, Texas, is a rancher and rides the mare himself.
