May rode PRF Reys Ruler (Dual Rey x Diamond River Dance x Haidas Little Pep) from the second draw to a 216 to top the field of eight horses. The Peter DeLeeuw-bred gelding and his Saltillo, Mississippi-based owner garnered $2,587 for the win.

“The horse felt good,” said May, who trains with Sean Flynn. “We cut the cattle we had picked. They shaped good and got them cut clean. It was just a good, clean run.”

From the final draw, May piloted Chance To Cat to a 211, securing his spot in third and picking up another $1,857. Chance To Cat (High Brow Cat x Bobs Smart Chance x Bob Acre Doc) was bred by Slate River Ranch, of Weatherford, Texas, and amassed $7,934 during his debut at the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity.

May, who posted his first check to Equi-Stat in 1990, boasts lifetime earnings of approximately $830,000. PRF Reys Ruler, who also finished first in the 4-Year-Old Senior Unlimited Amateur, has an Equi-Stat record that now totals more than $41,000.

Laura Landers and Smartlee As A Cat (Smooth As A Cat x Smart Jerri Lee x Smart Little Jerry) landed the 4-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur Reserve Championship when they marked a 213. Landers, of Weatherford, Texas, was the only other rider to qualify two horses to the finals. Altogether, she pocketed $3,081.
