In the Open finals, three sets of 13 horses faced off for the Championship, but only one finished on top.

The Reyl McCoy (Dual Rey x Cool The Engines x Smart Little Lena) carried Tate Bennett, of Hereford, Texas, to a 223.5 from the 28th draw and bested the division by 2.5 points. The sorrel stallion is owned by Anderson Cattle Company, of Victoria, Texas, and was bred by Broom Tree Ranch LLC, of Greeley, Colorado.

Already, the pair has been successful in the cutting pen. With a seventh place finish in the 2015 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Open semifinals and a sixth place finish in the finals, they banked a hefty $43,203.

Metallic Tassa (Metallic Cat x Smart Little Tassa x Smart Little Lena) and Equi-Stat Elite $7 Million Rider Lloyd Cox, of Marietta, Oklahoma, took the Reserve Championship with a 221. Metallic Tassa, a sorrel stallion, is owned by ATL Cutting Horses LLC, of Denver, Colorado, and was bred by Ronald Jones, of Lexington, Texas.

5/6-Year-Old Open

Competitors in the 5/6-Year-Old Open knew they would have to leave it all out on the table to take the Championship, and Reyzin The Cash (Dual Rey x Spookys Cash x Miss N Cash) and Equi-Stat Elite $3 Million Rider Gary Gonsalves did just that.

Last year, at the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Core Balance Derby Open, the duo marked a career record 229 to win the Championship, and in the 5/6-Year-Old Open at Arbuckle, they raised the bar even higher and marked a smoking 230, to secure the division title.

Gonsalves, of Millsap, Texas, and the Iron Rose Ranch hombred sorrel stallion have come back full force after a devastating second go at the 2014 NCHA Futurity, where they lost a cow. The duo recovered with the 2015 NCHA Super Stakes Novice Open Championship, and it doesn’t appear that they are slowing down.

Reserve honors went to My Pepto Jewels (One Time Pepto x Pretty Jewels x Lenas Jewel Bars) and Equi-Stat Elite $2 Million Rider Beau Galyean, who marked a 222. The GCH Land and Cattle Company bred stallion, is owned by Thomas Guinn, of Philadelphia, Mississippi.
