National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Fame Inductee, Colleen McQuay, wife of Tim McQuay, was recently awarded the Walter B. Devereux Sportsmanship Award at the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Pegasus awards dinner. This award is presented to the horseman or horsewoman who personifies the ideals of the current sportsman’s charter through commitment and dedication to the sport.
McQuay was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame in 2014 and has impacted NRHA and the sport of reining in a positive and profound way. McQuay joined her husband and daughter, Mandy McCutcheon, who preceded her into the elite group of NRHA Hall of Famers. It goes without saying that McQuay’s contributions to the NRHA have been industry-changing, and her touch is evident in many of today’s shows.
McQuay, in addition to her role in the reining industry, has played an even larger role with USEF, having earned numerous USEF championships in the hunter divisions while also competing at American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) events. She is a six-time All American Quarter Horse Congress champion and has numerous AQHA World championships. Over the past 25 years, with the help of her husband and other mentors in the hunter business, she has trained both horses and riders to numerous wins and championships.
