In the 11-horse Intermediate Non-Pro Bridle finals at the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Celebration of Champions, Keri Hudson-Reykdal rode Don Quejana (Quejanaisalena x Little Squallita x Rum Squall) to the winning score. The team received a composite of 433.5 (214 rein/219.5 cow), giving them their first World Championship.
“He was really good today,” Hudson-Reykdal said after her winning run. “We got through the reining, which is always what I hope for. And then on the cow, he was just awesome! He was super sharp on his turns and he steered everywhere he needed to.”
Hudson-Reykdal is a mixed animal veterinarian in Ashern, Manitoba, Canada. She said no one else rides cow horses in her area, so she travels 13 hours to ride with NRCHA Professional John Swales.
She has only been showing “Shorty,” a 2004 gelding, for a year. They took home a check for $2,852 and a Bob’s Custom Saddle from the NRCHA, and the pair also finished high in the 2015 NRCHA National standings.
The Intermediate Non-Pro Bridle Reserve Champion was Jessica Madigan and Shiners Rojo (Shining Spark x Little Lena Lady x Smart Little Lena). The pair earned a 432.5 composite score (215.5 rein/217 cow). Madigan won a Gist custom buckle, boots from Rios of Mercedes, a notebook donated by Classic Equine and an NRCHA commemorative World Finalist jacket sponsored by Holy Cow Performance Horses and Shady Lil Starlight.
