Gary BarkerGary Barker & Smooth N SavvyTopping one division at an event like the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity in Ardmore, Oklahoma, is a difficult task for any rider, but Gary Barker made it look easy when he bested both Unlimited Amateur finals.

In the 4-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur finals, Barker, of Madill, Oklahoma, and his mare Smooth N Savvy (Smooth As A Cat x Desires Rey x Dual Rey) were the second pair to enter the cutting pen, and they laid down a 219, which topped the division by 4 points.

Mike Townsend, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Faith In My Cat (Smooth As A Cat x Faith In Your Mate x Smart Mate) marked a 215, earning them the Reserve Championship, worth $2,717.

Barker wasn’t done yet. He kept his momentum going for the 5/6-Year-Old Unlimited Amateur, and marked a 217 on his mare Kit Kat, which put him 2 points ahead of the eventual Reserve Champions, Rob Gerrits and Im Playin Checkers (Im Countin Checks x Charmed For Sure x Smart Little Lena). Barker’s victories in both finals brought him total paychecks of $9,048.

Barker was overwhelmed by all of the success he had at the event saying, “I don’t win very often, so to be able to win two in one day has really been great.”
