First Aaron Ranch Derby Champions Crowned

Finalists and champions were determined on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, Feb. 14 at the NRCHA Celebration of Champions in Fort Worth, Texas, as the Aaron Ranch Cow Horse Classic Derby preliminaries wrapped up at the Will Rogers Memorial Center.

In the Aaron Ranch Cow Horse Classic Level 1 Limited Open division, the top score, a 428.5 (143 herd/143 rein/142.5 cow), belonged to Smart Magnum Dun It (Magnum Chic Dream x Msmattydillondunit x Matt Dillon Dun It), shown by Jordan Williams and owned by Wes and Sarah Williams.

The Championship paid $1,851 and came with a Gist buckle and jacket sponsored by Aaron Ranch, as well as product from Platinum Performance.

Jordan Williams also claimed the Level 1 Limited Open Reserve Championship with Kuki Sioux (A Shiner Named Sioux x Kuki x Cats Merada), also owned by Wes and Sarah Williams. The placing paid $1,388 and came with a fleece cooler sponsored by Classic Equine and a jacket from Aaron Ranch.

Novice Horse Open

In the Novice Horse Open division, the preliminary round determined the winner, and California professional Lyn Anderson rode Shesa Smokin Cat (WR This Cats Smart x She Smokes Smart x Senors Lil Brudder) to the Championship with a 430 composite (143 herd/144 rein/143 cow), earning $1,999. Shesa Smokin Cat is owned by David and Barbara Archer.

The Novice Horse Open Championship came with a monogrammed jacket sponsored by Aaron Ranch and product from Platinum Performance. Anderson and Shesa Smokin Cat also earned a place in the fence work-only finals on Monday.

The Novice Horse Open Reserve Champion was Mia Lil Pink (Shining Lil Nic x Lean With Mia x Lean With Me), shown by Alzada, Montana, horseman Justin Lawrence for owners Larry Brown and Debra Licking. Mia Lil Pink added $1,570 to her earnings record by scoring a 427.5 composite (144.5 herd/143 rein/140 cow). Mia Lil Pink will also advance to the Intermediate Open finals.
