A Jewel Added to Million Dollar Sire Roster

likeadiamondLike A DiamondThere are some who would say that Like A Diamond (PT) isn’t the real deal. He’s never earned a penny in the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) show pen or represented his country in international reining competition, but a look at his pedigree belies those facts when it comes to his progeny and their potential to excel in the sport.

By NRHA Million Dollar Sire Grays Starlight and out of the Diamond Jim (PT) mare Diamond Jewel Wood (PT), the 1992 American Paint Horse Association (APHA) sorrel overo stallion achieved success in the cutting pen at APHA and National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) competitions, with lifetime earnings totaling $9,579. In NCHA competition, he was a finalist in the NCHA Open Super Stakes. In APHA, he was the 1996 APHA World Champion Junior Cutting Horse and earned 23 APHA cutting points and a Register Of Merit in cutting.

Like A Diamond first came to reining prominence in 2001 as the sire of NRHA Futurity Open Champion RR Star (PT) with a young Andrea Fappani at the reins. RR Star made history as the first Paint Horse to win the NRHA Futurity, and to make things more exciting, he did it following a run-off. He then went on to top the 2003 NRHA Derby with Tim McQuay riding, banking a total of $222,751 throughout his career.
