This Cats Got Style lived up to her name during the Open finals of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA)/Western Bloodstock Showdown In Cowtown on Dec. 4 when she topped the division by 7 points with Dustin Gonnet in the saddle.
Lil Rattler (Dual Rey x Highbrow Supercat x High Brow Cat) and Wesley Galyean were the first draw in the 15-horse finals and held on to the lead with a 222 until This Cats Got Style (High Brow Cat x Moms Stylish Pepto x Peptoboonsmal) and Gonnet earned a 229 from the ninth draw.
The victory came with a whopping $75,000 check, which is great for any rider, but especially sweet for Gonnet. It took his lifetime earnings past the $1 million milestone. The paycheck elevated This Cats Got Style’s Equi-Stat record to more than $160,000.
The 6-year-old mare was bred by Rhodes River Ranch, of Arlington, Washington, and is owned by Ronald Patton, of Nanton, Alberta, Canada.
Gonnet, of Cayley, Alberta, Canada, credits much of his success at the Showdown In Cowtown to the strength and personality of This Cats Got Style, saying, “She has always been so honest about going out and doing her job.”
