It takes a lot to top a field of 31 talented cutting horses, but Stevie Rey Von lived up to his name and rocked the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Limited Non-Pro by edging out the competition with Rieta Dufurrena.
The pair finished with a 220, a score they also received in the Limited Non-Pro semifinals and first go-round of the Non-Pro. The win in the division was worth $9,426, which took Dufurrena’s lifetime earnings to $155,627.
Dufurrena, of Gainesville, Texas, knows her NCHA Futurity title wouldn’t be possible without the strong partnership between her and her mount. “He loves me, and I love him to death,” Dufurrena said.
Stevie Rey Von (Metallic Cat x Miss Ella Rey x Dual Rey) is owned by Dufurrena’s father, Ed Dufurrena, and the stallion was bred by her brother, Brandon Dufurrena.
Australia native Peter Shumack and Fair Lady Flash (Purdy Boy Flash x Ristos Fair Lady x Smart Aristocrat) took the Limited Non-Pro Reserve title after earning a 217.5, worth a $9,218 paycheck.
