Dam Line:

Missing May Lena, the dam of May I Be Wild, is the winner of $25,375. She is sired by Miss N Cash ($124,662), by Dash For Cash. Miss N Cash is out of the National Reined Cow Horse Association Hall of Fame mare Doc N Missy, by Doc Bar.

Intheblood 04 DocNMissy WorkingtheWall webSome consider Doc N Missy and Bobby Ingersoll’s fence run in the 1978 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open finals the best cow work ever. The second turn Doc N Missy made on the fence challenged the resolve of the veteran cow horseman, who said, “That cow broke hard and she broke right with it. About two-thirds of the way down the fence, she got on her hocks. She was so quick to get turned with it and so quick to get out of the turn that we didn’t go back far for the second turn. She hit that one quicker than I did and I was way up on her neck. It was all I could do to ride her. This mare was so great that she let the cow dictate to her, and all I was up there for was the ride.”

The mating of legendary Quarter Horse racehorse Dash For Cash and Doc N Missy was the brainchild of Dan Lufkin. Lufkin approached B.F. Phillips Jr. about breeding Doc N Missy to the World Champion racing stallion. The resulting foal was Miss N Cash, who went on to be the 1987 NCHA Derby Open Champion. Miss N Cash is the sire of earners of more than $4.2 million including 1992 NCHA Futurity Open Champion Dox Miss N Reno.

Missing May Lena is out of Sannie Olena, by Doc O’Lena. With Mike Haack in the saddle, Sannie Olena was the 1990 Augusta Futurity Open Reserve Champion behind Ronnie Rice and Pop A Top Pep. Sannie Olena earned $30,064 in her career and has produced the earners of $221,444. Her leading money winner is Doc Alley ($81,826).

Sannie Olena is out of Peppys Punkin Par, a 1981 daughter of Peppy San. While she was unshown, her foals have earned $65,088 in cutting, with Sannie Olena her richest offspring. Peppys Punkin Par is also the dam of Genuine Punkin and Under Orders. Genuine Punkin is an AQHA performer with three Superiors in Amateur Heading and Heeling and Open Heeling. Under Orders is an AQHA Open Performance Champion with Superiors in Open Heading, Heeling and Tie-Down Roping, as well as two Superiors in Amateur Heading and Heeling.

The dam of Peppys Punkin Par is Docs Three Parette, by Doc Bar. Unshown herself, her offspring have earnings of $22,926, according to Equi-Stat. Her leading money-earner is San Par (by Peppy San), a winner of $16,293.

Docs Three Parette’s dam is Three Parette, who was an AQHA Champion and Superior Halter Horse sired by Par Three. Three Parette was bred by AQHA Hall of Fame member Marten Clark. When bred to Doc Bar, Three Parette produced Doc’s Masterpiece. Doc’s Masterpiece is the dam of such horses as Masters Playboy ($92,544) and granddam of Master Merada ($74,498).

Three Parette is out of Nevada Starlet (Nevada King x Miss Rainy Day x Waggoner’s Rainy Day), who is the foundation mare for this line of horses. Nevada Starlet is the dam of Clark’s Doc Bar (by Doc Bar). Clark’s Doc Bar is the sire of earners of more than $1.8 million.

With a great showing at the Calgary Stampede Wrangler Cutting Futurity under her belt, it will be interesting to see the next step for this May I Be Wild. Will she continue her double duty or go off into an open or non-pro career? Either way, she is already living up to the successful and productive bloodlines behind her.
