NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Finalists Named

The National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Snaffle Bit Futurity Open preliminaries wrapped up Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Reno, Nevada, determining the Open finalists. The Cinch Intermediate Open and Limited Open clean-slate finals are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, and the premier NRCHA event will culminate Saturday, Oct. 3, with the Open finals.

There are 25 horse-and-rider duos qualified for Saturday’s clean-slate Open finals. The highest composite score was a 659.5 – accumulated by two teams. Cats Picasso (Metallic Cat x Playboys Vixen x Hickoryote), carried John Swales, of Millarville, Alberta, Canada, to the top of the prelims for owner Robbie McKay, while Shiney Sparklette (Shining Spark x Docs Sulena x Doc O’Lena) and Chris Dawson, of Burneyville, Oklahoma, also found their place at the top of the leader board. Shiney Sparklette, bred by Carol Rose, of Gainesville, Texas, is owned by Rose and Dickson Varner.

Horses with an Open preliminary score of 647.5 or higher qualified for the finals. The top 25 teams that made the cut are:
