From the 32nd draw, Thebettertohearuwith and Equi-Stat Elite $4 Million Rider Andrea Fappani marked a 225, and many spectators thought that the Championship was sealed. Shesouttayourleague and Casey Deary had other plans in mind, though.

From the 47th hole, the duo put together a big run that the judges scored a 227.5, which would hold to win. Deary and Arcese Quarter Horses-bred Shesouttayourleague (Walla Walla Whiz x Wimpys Little Chic x Wimpys Little Step) received $13,531 for owner Robert Curtis, of Fort Worth, Texas, which pushed Deary, who won the Futurity Level 4 Open last year aboard Magnum Starlights, closer to the $1 Million Rider mark.

“She’s always been really fun to ride and really easy to train,” Deary said of “Lexy.” Of her performance in the Futurity Open, he said, “She walked to the middle and was very focused, and she just did her job everywhere I asked.”

Deary also showed Princess N Pearls (Smart Spook x Princess In Diamonds x Shining Spark), who scored a 222.5 and took fifth place, and ARC Gunna Mark Ya (Gunnatrashya x Shiney Miss Marker x Shining Spark), who marked a 220 and received 11th place. He was pleased to land in the top 15 with all three horses.

“It’s nice to know that the hard work pays off. We’ve got good customers and good horses, and the opportunity to get to come show them and have them operate is pretty exciting,” he said.

Otto Stanislaw Jr.-bred Cannon Gun (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Tuckerette Command x Fritz Command) and Gabe Hutchins were in the 84th draw, only three spots away from the final hole. As the audience cheered, Hutchins and Cannon Gun slid to a 226. That score pushed recent Reining By The Bay Futurity Level 4 Open Champions Fappani and Bill Coburn-bred Thebettertohearuwith (Spooks Gotta Whiz x Chex Out The Cowgirl x Lean With Me) to third place. For the Reserve Championship, Cannon Gun and Hutchins, of Aubrey, Texas, earned $8,236 for Joseph, Oregon-based owner Tamarack Ranch LLC.
