The Trifecta Non-Pro Reining Challenge gives Derby Non-Pro riders an incentive to compete at each of the three Brumley Management Group (BMG) Derby Non-Pro events held throughout the year by awarding a year-end prize to the highest-earning horse and rider combination. The coveted prize – a trip to a luxury destination – has been awarded annually since 2012. Past award recipients stayed at the Four Seasons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Four Seasons in Maui, Hawaii and the Four Seasons in Lanai, Hawaii.
The 2015 Trifecta trip-for-two consists of a three-night stay at the luxurious Salamander Resort and Spa in Middleburg, Virginia. For the first time ever, this Virginia getaway brings together today’s sought-after key elements of time-saving accessibility, authenticity of cultural and historical experiences, unique culinary and wine programming, and an innovative spa and wellness concept. Truly a unique experience, the Salamander Resort and Spa offers every aspect of a luxury destination resort.
This year’s winner is once again Cam Essick, of Clements, California. She rode her homebred gelding Holier Then Thou (Jacs Electric Spark x Slylena x Smart Little Lena) to a total of $7,809 in BMG Derby Non-Pro events this year. Last year’s Trifecta trip-for-two, which took the winner to the Four Seasons Punta Mita in Mexico, also went to Cam after she rode her homebred gelding Who Loves You (Walla Walla Whiz x Love Em N Lena x Smart Little Lena) to earnings of $13,766 over the three-show-series to secure the win.
Cam’s two-year running streak can be contributed to consistency. She had good shows at both the 2015 Cactus Reining Classic, where she placed in the top 20 with both Holier Then Thou and Who Loves You in the Derby Non-Pro, and Reining by the Bay, where she took the Reserve title in the Derby Prime Time and Levels 4 and 3 Non-Pro with Holier Then Thou. Though she had some trouble at the High Roller Reining Classic this year and was not in the money, it did not matter when it came down to the end game. By showing in all three BMG Non-Pro Derbies, Cam held her position over those who actually won more money but did not show at all three events (see the results here). Congratulations to Cam Essick!
